Medusa, Drinking Game Rules

Category: Party & Verbal Games · Players: 4+ · You’ll need: Drinks only; a table

Heads down, heads up, lock eyes with the wrong person and you're stone (well, drinking).

Setup: Everyone stands or sits tightly around a table, drinks ready.

How to play:

1. Everyone puts their head down (or closes their eyes).
2. Someone counts "3, 2, 1, MEDUSA!", and everyone snaps their head up, staring directly at one other player. No looking at the table; you must pick a person.
3. If the person you're staring at is staring back at you, you've locked eyes: both of you shout "Medusa!" and drink a sip.
4. If they're looking at someone else, you're safe. Heads down, go again.

Medusa, Variations

• Standing circle: Play standing shoulder-to-shoulder around a small table, sightlines get claustrophobic and locks happen constantly.
• Elimination: Locked pairs are out; last two players stare each other down for the crown.
• Silent Medusa: No shouting, locked pairs just drink; anyone who shouts “Medusa!” on a false lock drinks double.
