Asshole / President, Drinking Game Rules

A shedding game with a social ladder: the winner becomes President and lives well; the loser becomes the Asshole and drinks.

Setup: Deal the entire deck out as evenly as possible. Card ranking, low to high: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A. The 2 is special: playing a 2 clears the pile and you lead again.

How to play a round:

1. The first leader (dealer's left in game one; the Asshole in later games) plays any single card, pair, triple, or four of a kind face-up.
2. Going left, each player must play the same number of cards of a higher rank (a pair of 9s can only be beaten by a higher pair), or say "pass." Passing doesn't lock you out of later turns on the same pile.
3. When everyone passes back to the last player who laid cards, the pile is cleared and that player leads fresh.
4. Play until everyone but one is out of cards. First out = President, last = Asshole; middle finishers are Vice-President and Vice-Asshole in order.

Drinking and rank rules (next round): The Asshole deals, refills drinks, and hands their 2 best cards to the President, who gives back any 2 cards. The President may order anyone to drink; the Asshole drinks whenever anyone tells them to; anyone may make a lower rank drink. Play as many rounds as you like.

Asshole / President, Variations

• Revolution: Playing four of a kind reverses the entire rank order (3s become high) until the next revolution, chaos insurance for the Asshole.
• Jokers wild: Add jokers as the only cards that beat 2s.
• Musical chairs: Seats are ranked, President takes the best chair, Asshole the worst (floor, stool, or milk crate), and everyone physically moves between rounds.
• Vice powers: Vice-President may also give drink orders, but only to the bottom two ranks.
